Northern Greenland is rocky, mountaneous and dry. I grew up in Uummannaq, a small town on a small island in a big fjord with tall mountains all around and several mouthing glaciers. Summers are warm and bright with midnight sun and evercalm waters. Winters are dark and cold with sea ice surrounding the island, only lit by northern lights or the moon, since the sun is below the horizon for 4 months. I now live in Denmark - the mountains have been replaced by buildings and most of these landscapes have become faint memories to me, only refreshed during short trips home. The photographs below are the result of a young greenlandic danish amateur photographer's longing for nature's freedom and the nostalgia of childhood. Enjoy.
